BEST Places to Stay in Niagara on the Lake

Welcome to the best guide on the best places to stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I live about 3 hours from Niagara on the Lake, and visit about twice a year. It’s one of my favourite places in Ontario, because I love the lush green downtown, (which is lovely at all times of year) the surrounding wine country, and the history.
Having stayed in MANY places in Niagara on the Lake (Prince of Wales Hotel, plus a handfull of bed and breakfasts) I’m going to share with you the best places to stay.

Bed and breakfasts are the most common type of accommodation in Niagara on the Lake, but you can also find AirBnbs, and hotels – some that lean budget-friendly, some boutique hotels, and others that are very fancy and high class. Where you stay depends on the tone of what you’re looking for.
I usually end up paying $400-$500 per night that I spend in Niagara on the Lake, this is usually for a room that sleeps at least 2 people. Here’s what I would say you should budget for Niagara on the Lake accommodations:
- Budget is about $200-$300 per night (it doesn’t get much lower than this, especially if you want to be somewhat close to the downtown)
- Mid-Range is between $300-700 per night
- Luxury, you can spend anywhere from $700-$1,000+ per night
So, let’s jump into the list of best places to stay in different categories.
Best Bed and Breakfasts to Stay in Niagara on the Lake
Niagara on the Lake is a town of bed and breakfasts, bed and breakfasts are the most common style of accommodation in town. You’ll see a bed and breakfast on every street. After experiencing staying at a few of these places, and extensive research and analyzing ratings, I’ve narrowed it down to what I think are the best ones

1. La Maison de Sophie
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.7/10)
Budget: Lower mid-Range (very good deal, especially for being so close to town!)
Breakfast included ✅Â
Walking distance to the downtown ✅Â (500 metres / 0.3 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, solo travellers (they make custom packages depending on what type of visit!) *This is an adult-only accommodation
La Maison de Sophie is a bed and breakfast run by Madame Sophie and her husband Gilles. There are 3 rooms total in their bed and breakfast, and they offer some special features that others dont, such as crafts if it’s a rainy day. They can put custom packages together for girls’ trips, romantic getaways, etc. I have been trying for years to get into Maison de Sophie, but it almost never works as they require a 2-night stay, and are often booked. It looks like a fantastic place to stay; if its available during your trip then I recommend grabbing it!

2. The Old Bank House
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (8.9/10)
Budget: Mid-range
Breakfast included ✅
Walking distance to the downtown ✅ (350 m or 0.2 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, solo travellers *this is an adult-only accommodation

I stayed at The Old Bank House while on a girl’s trip to Niagara on the Lake with my best friend. Our favourite part about this old fashioned house was the views of the gazebo and the Lake Ontario. This is the only bed and breakfast with a view of the lake, that I know of! The breakfast portions were small, but very yummy. We had chosen the options we wanted the night before, and the time we wanted it, and they make sure its ready for your chosen time slot. They also provided unlimited coffee (with oat milk for those of us that are dairy free.) The staff was very kind. It is about a 10-minute walk into the downtown core. We brought bikes with us from home (but you can also rent them in town) which gets you into town in just a couple minutes.

3. The Schoolhouse Bed and Breakfast
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.6/10)
Budget: Mid-Range
Breakfast included ✅
Walking distance to the downtown ✅ (1.5 km or 0.9 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, and solo travellers *this is an adult-only accommodation

My husband found and booked The Schoolhouse for us for a weekend getaway. In all my research, I had never come across this one, but I think its because it’s often booked. The only reason we were able to grab it is that we were visiting in November, which is low season. The inside of the Schoolhouse has an antique, old library, Harry Potter vibe. They offer free refreshments and cookies during the day, and the breakfast was amazing! Their location was perfect too; it was so close to everything. Of all the bed and breakfasts that I’ve stayed in, I think the Schoolhouse might be the shortest walk to the downtown core. I highly recommend The Schoolhouse.
4. 627 on King BnB
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.6/10)
Budget: Mid-Range
Breakfast included ✅
Walking distance to the downtown ✅ (1.3 km or 0.8 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, families and solo travellers *Children under 18 aren’t allowed

I stayed at 627 on King with my husband when we spent a weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake after getting engaged. The hosts, a married couple, were so kind, the bed was comfy and the room was spacious with a fireplace. It really felt like being at home, and we didn’t want to leave. The breakfast was home-cooked, fresh and delicious – probably one of the best that I’ve had in Niagara on the Lake. I’d highly recommend 627 on King!
5. Cedar Gables Bed and Breakfast
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.6/10)
Budget: Mid-Range
Breakfast included ✅
Walking distance to the downtown ✅ (1.5 km or 0.9 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, and solo travellers *this is an adult-only accommodation
Cedar Gables is one of the cutest looking bed and breakfasts from the outside, it looks like right out of the novel. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed here before, but it is high on my list because of the rave reviews. The breakfasts are different every day, fresh and homemade. The gardens surrounding the old fashioned house, and the cozy living room will make this a really relaxing getaway. A 2 night stay is required.
6. Globetrotters B&B
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (9.8/10)
Budget: Lower budget (great deal)
Breakfast included ✅Â
Walking distance to the downtown ✅Â (1.4 km or 0.8 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends solo travellers *The minimum age to check in is 21 year’s old, and children under 18 aren’t allowed
The couple who run Globettrotter’s B&B have been running it for over 20 years, so it is tried and true accommodation in town. It’s a beautiful and newly renocated cozy house with a gazebo in the garden. The only reason I haven’t stayed here yet is they require a 2-night stay and I normally only spend 1 night in Niagara on the Lake at a time. They are highly rated and their breakfasts are supposed to be incredible.
7. Carbonnel Bed & Breakfast
Approximate Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (8/10)
Budget: Mid-Range
Breakfast included ✅Â
Walking distance to the downtown ❌ (10 km or 8 miles)
Good for: Couples, friends, families and solo travellers
I stayed at Caronnel Bed & Breakfast for a girl’s weekend. It had lots of space, the breakfast was delicious with generous portions. It’s only for people who have a car, as its too far to walk into town and back. I would highly recommend this place if you don’t mind being out of town. The hosts were very nice. Part of what made it unique was it had joining 2 bedrooms. This would make it a good option for friends who want separate bedrooms, or families with kids.
