Is the Disney Cruise Rainforest Room Worth It? What You Need to Know

Considering buying a pass to visit the Rainforest Room on the Disney Cruise? The most important things to know are that:

  • The Rainforest Room is basically a spa service. You book it through Senses Spa, and the Rainforest Room is located inside the spa
  • It’s not included in any spa services; it’s its own separate treatment that you purchase, just like a massage or a facial
  • The rainforest room on each ship is slightly different; some have qualities and limitations that others do not (I’ll provide details each individual ship’s Rainforest room below)

You can choose between a single day pass for the Rainforest Room, or a pass for the whole duration of your cruise. On our most recent cruise on the Disney Treasure, my husband and I decided to buy a pass for the whole 7 nights.

I found the pass a little expensive (over $300 each), and in no way did I feel like the it was the best spa I’d ever been to. However, I am glad we booked it because it was a novelty for me to have easy access to a sauna and steam rooms every day. This isn’t something I can easily visit at home, and I loved having this quiet space on the ship to hang out and spoil myself in.

I’m going to share with you what I learned about the Rainforest Room, its strengths and limitations, if its worth it (and more importantly, who it’s most worth for) and small details about what makes each Rainforest Room on the different ships unique, so you can decide if the pass is worth it for you.

Is the Rainforest Pass Worth It?

I would say that the Rainforest Room is definitely worth the price if you enjoy steam rooms, saunas, and value a quieter place to hang out. Saunas and steam rooms can’t be found anywhere else on the ship, and the Rainforest Room is also probably the quietest place on the ship. Even the adult only areas, especially on the larger ships, are still a bit noisy because of so many people talking, laughing, having drinks, etc.

The Rainforest Room, from my experience, was the only place on the ship that had a culture for keeping volume to a minimum. There were very few people (if any) talking above a whisper. Most people didn’t talk at all, because they’re there to relax.

As someone who struggles with anxiety and nervous system overstimulation, it was really nice for me to have this quieter place to go to, just to relax and take it easy. In addition, I love saunas and steam rooms and being able to go in them every day was like getting a high quality facial. My skin looked and felt much clearer, younger and better.

So is the Disney Cruise Line Rainforest Room worth it? Even though it was overpriced, I felt that it was worth it for me. Asking if its worth it is like asking if a massage, facial or any other treatment is worth it. If you get something out of it, then it is likely worth it for you!

What is Included in the Disney Cruise Line Rainforest Rooms?

With your rainforest pass, you will get:

  • Access to the spa changerooms and lockers. Inside the changerooms, are Senses Spa-specific products that you can use, and some ships have a steam room or sauna (depending on the ship in there as well. In or outside the changerooms, you’ll find tea and coffee, water and fresh fruit. I often grabbed a banana to go, to bring back to my stateroom for later.
  • Hot drinks (tea)
  • Still and sparkling water (some have sparkling, some have lemon) there are paper cups for you to fill with your drink of choice
  • Cool face towels, kept in a fridge
  • Hot tubs; the adult only areas on the ship ha
  • Lounge chairs; some indoor and heated, and some ships have outdoor comfy ones as well
  • Saunas and steam rooms; different ships have different types of steam rooms and saunas.
  • Ice rooms (only on the newer ships – Wish, Treasure and Destiny)

Things to Know About Different Rainforest Rooms on Each Ship

Disney Treasure

  • I personally enjoyed it, but I will admit, it’s not amazing. It seems to be one of the poorer rated rainforest rooms on all of the ships. People don’t like that the outdoor area closes at 6pm, and there isn’t any oceanview windows from the spa
  • One thing I found weird about the design of the Rainforest Room on this ship is that the Deck 6 promenade is right above the outdoor area, so people are literally peering down into it.
  • There’s 2 hot tubs, 1 hammam steam room (Turkish bath style), 1 laconiam sauna, 1 ice room, plus shows, washrooms, cool towels, heated indoor lounge chairs, and lots of comfy places outside to sit

Disney Wish and Disney Destiny

  • The Disney Wish and Destiny ships are almost identical in layout to the Treasure, so the Rainforest Spa looks almost the same on both of them
  • The video tour I gave above for the Treasure is almost exactly what you’ll find on the Wish and the Destiny
  • Similar to the Treasure, the outdoor area closes at 6pm because they can’t light the area due to it being right below the ship’s control room

The Wish class steam rooms are the most likely to get crowded, because of the number of people on board. I never found it so busy that I couldn’t find a seat, but usually there were only 1-2 seats left. I visited at all different hours and found that early afternoon is the busiest time. If you want to come at a quieter time, then early morning, late evening, or port days are much less busy.

Disney Dream and Fantasy

  • Honestly, the Disney Dream and Fantasy Rainforest Room looks like one of the best ones! The Dream and Fantasy are some of the best Disney Cruise ships beause they have more space for the number of people on board
  • There are three different hot rooms: a hammam steam room, a caldarium, and a laconiam (dry sauna) so they have one more hot room than the Wish class ships do
  • There are lots of windows that look out into the water, right at the front of the ship. The views are gorgeous
  • It seems more ‘private’ than the Wish class ships do, because of the lack of promenade right above it.

Disney Wonder and Magic

  • Disney Wonder is one of the oldest ships, so the Rainforest Room was updated in 2020 to catch up to the modern look of other ships
  • Has an Aromatic Steam Room, sauna, heated loungers, and an outdoor area
  • There is no jacuzzi
  • It’s not as big as the Rainforest Rooms on the larger ships (the Wonder and the Magic are the smallest Disney Cruise ships and only carry 2,700 passengers total, so naturally their Rainforest Rooms are smaller too)
  • In the locker room, you’ll find a dry sauna

How Does the Rainforest Room Work?

Booking the Rainforest Room pass

You can either book the Rainforest Room in advance or on the spot. Advance bookings seem to depend on the cruise. They may sell out early on some, but this isn’t always the case.

We heard that it fills up extremely fast, but we didn’t find that it filled up at all. We booked the 7 night Rainforest Pass for both of us a week before our cruise. When I was on the cruise, I saw the Senses Spa staff often trying to convince people to book a Rainforest day pass as an add-on to whatever spa treatment they were doing.

Personally, I found that there were more than enough people in the rainforest room. There wasn’t an abundance of seating or places to sit. So selfishly, I didn’t want them to sell too many more passes!

How to check into the Rainforest Room

You hand in your Disney band or Key to the World card to the front desk and Senses Spa; in return, they give you a wrist band which swiped you into the Rainforest Room. They provide a bathrobe if you want one as well, then you go to the change room, change and then head to the Rainforest Room.

If you gett a Rainforest Pass (for the duration of your cruise) means that they put a sticker on your Key to the World card saying that you have the pass. This way, they always know when you show up at the spa, that you have the pass.

Final Thoughts: Should you Book the Rainforest Room?

Most people agree that the Dream Class Disney Cruises are the best. The Wish class (the newer ships) are the most critisized, but I still enjoyed having access to it.

If you:

  • suffer from anxiety, overstimulation (like me)
  • enjoy saunas and steam rooms
  • aren’t doing any other spa treatments

Then the Rainforest Room might be worth the splurge!

If you’re:

  • not a sauna person or don’t particularly enjoy steam rooms
  • are already spreading yourself quite thin expense-wise (Disney Cruises are very expensive)

Then you may prefer to save your money or spend it elsewhere. The Rainforest Room is nice, especially if you need the quiet, relaxing space. But, I think its a ‘nice to have’ not a ‘must have.’ If you want help budgeting to figure out what other things you may need or want to spend money on, then check out my article on how much you can expect to pay for a Disney Cruise (in toal.)
