The Union Station area is the heart of the downtown core of Toronto. It’s walking distance to all the main attractions, and is one of the safest, most convenient areas to stay in downtown Toronto.

The Union Station area is close to some of the city’s most famous tourist attractions – Ripley’s Aquarium, CN Tower, Rogers Centre (where baseball games are held, and big concerts), Toronto Roundhouse, and the harbourfront area. 1. Fairmont Royal York

Fairmont Royal York Hotel is the closest hotel to Union Station, right across the street. If you’re looking for luxury- this is a great option. It’s basically the Toronto version of the New York Plaza Hotel. It’s also one of Toronto’s most prestigious hotels, and its very historic. One of my favourite books set in Canada takes place at the time that they were building this hotel.
Royal York Hotel features two swimming pools, a fitness centre, an exceptional buffet breakfast, and an afternoon tea that they’ve been running since 1929. Its a nice walking area with lots of restaurants and bars. And of course, you can get to wherever in the city you want to very easily.

3. The Union Hotel
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.3 on Google)
Walking distance to Union Station: 11 minutes

The Union Hotel (formerly Strathcona Hotel)is an old Toronto hotel, having opened in 1933. Part of what I like about it is its not a chain – its independently owned boutique hotel, which is becoming increasingly rare in Toronto and in Canada. The Union Hotel underwent a huge revamp a couple years ago and changed its name to the Union Hotel.
It has just about everything you need, and is located on a quieter side street in the area. Its still right in the business district of Toronto, and within walking distance of several attractions, and of course, Union Station.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.3 on Google)
Walking distance to Union Station: 14 minutes

Every time I walk by it I think that the people staying there are so lucky because they’re literally right on the harbour, just a stone’s throw from ferries, cruises and water taxis. It’s also a short walk to the Esplanade where there are tons of restaurants. With windows facing the lake, you have a view of Lake Ontario, and of planes taking off from the airport (not possible for any condos to block these views.)
