New Tecumseth
New Tecumseth refers to an area in southern Simcoe County, about 1 hour north of Toronto.
While Wikipedia is currently describing New Tecumseth as a town, us locals tend to think of ‘New Tec’ (as we call it) a community that contains three different towns:
- Alliston (the largest)
- Tottenham
- Beeton
The population in all three of these towns is growing rapidly. Since we are so close to the Greater Toronto Area, it’s a popular place to move to for more affordable housing and a commute to Toronto.
Overall, New Tec is a great place to live – likely one of the best places to live in Ontario, and there are some notable attractions here too if you’re visiting, such as:
- The South Simcoe Railway, the oldest operating steam heritage railway in Ontario
- The Homestead of Sir Frederick Banting, a WW2 hero who discovered insulin. The high school in Alliston is also named after him

Festivals and Seasonal Things to Do in New Tecumseth
Part of what is so nice about the New Tec area is the ‘small town’ atmosphere in the communities.
There are many festive celebrations for fall, Christmas, Easter and summer.
Some notable annual events that happen every year in New Tecumseth:
- The Tottenham Bluegrass Festival
- The Beeton Honey Festival
- The Alliston Potato Festival
Other nearby places to visit from New Tec:
- Barrie (30-45 minutes from New Tec, depending on where you area)
Places to Stay in New Tecumseth
The best place to stay, without a doubt, in New Tec – is the Nottawasaga Inn Resort, a large family-owned hotel. Unlike most hotels that are chains, we’re so lucky to have this gem in our little corner of Ontario.

Recently, people in the area have begun opening up their homes, or sections of their homes, to Airbnbs – so there are other options if you’re looking for something different.
