Niagara on the Lake
Niagara on the Lake is a mid-size town about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, Ontario.
While Niagara Falls is more popular for families, partiers, and thrill-seekers, Niagara on the Lake is completely different – it’s more of a honeymoon, boutique destination.

It’s quieter, more scenic, and dotted with beautiful Victorian homes and century-old buildings.
The food scene is actually pretty good; there’s a Michelin-star restaurant and lots of variety in the restaurants.

Niagara on the Lake is known for:
- Wineries. Niagara on the Lake is where Canadian wine-making began, and there are 50+ wineries in the area surrounding the town. Here are my recommendations for the best wineries in the area to add to your list
- The Shaw Festival – Live theatre festival that runs nine months out of the year, I’ve seen two plays so far and they’ve both been great
- Horse-drawn carriages, you’ll see them escorting people all around town
- History. There is some interesting local history you can learn about through walking tours, or ghost tours. Visit the Fort George Historic Site, or the Laura Secord Homestead (15 minutes away in Queenstown)
- Nature. There are many bike and walking trails, such as the Legacy Trail just outside town. The nearby Queenstown is the starting point to the Bruce Trail, a 900 km trail that spans all the way to Tobermory
