15 BEST Family-Friendly Restaurants in Quebec City

Looking for family-friendly restaurants in Quebec City? You’re in the right place. I went on a trip to Quebec City with both my kids; a toddler as well as a middle schooler. Previously, I’d travelled here solo. Quebec City is a place where you should indulge and enjoy the food. There are so many great places to eat.
If you’re in Quebec City with kids, you of course want to look for restaurants that welcome kids. I find that kids are welcome almost anywhere in Quebec City, but since its become popular for honeymooners, romantic getaways and girls’ trips, there are many restaurants that seem a bit more geared to adults. You can still bring your kids, of course. But you may collectively enjoy your time together more in a place that’s more flexible.

When I recommend “family friendly” restaurants in Quebec City, I base it on them:
- Having amenities for kids of a variety of ages, such as high chairs
- Affordable menu options for children; (kids meals aren’t required, but its bonus!) Food is expensive and you don’t want to spend a lot on a French Canadian dish they haven’t tried yet and then have them not finish it
- Options for different dietary needs. The more people in your group, the more likely that someone will have a dietary need
- Last, and most importantly – are generally kind and welcoming towards children of all ages (which honestly, will be the case with most restaurants – but some are special)
I’ve carefully put together a list of kid-friendly restaurants in Quebec City that I believe are the most welcoming towards children in Quebec City, and have delicious and excellent menu options as well. So, let’s jump in – family-friendly restaurants in Quebec City!
15 Family-Friendly Restaurants in Quebec City
Here are the most kid-friendly restaurants in Quebec City where you will receive warm service in a welcoming atmosphere, as well as kids menu options and family-friendly amenities
1. Restaurant aux Anciens Canadiens
34 Rue Saint-Louis, Québec
Restaurant Aux Ancients Canadiens is as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. It has a cozy, rustic interior and is right in Old Town. The name translates to “Restaurant of the Old Canadians.” It’s perfect for a ‘nice’ dinner to introduce both kids and adults to traditional French Canadian cuisine.

I’ll admit Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens is pretty pricey. The kids’ meals right now are going for $25 (options include poutine, meat pie and a couple other options.) If you’re doing Quebec City on a budget, it may not be the best option. But, if you’re already pretty sure that your kids will be ok with things like breaded chicken, meat pie or poutine, then it might be worth the money as their food is really good!
You’ll find menu items such as pea soup, and cordon bleu for adults. They have a delicious maple syrup crème brûlée for dessert.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ✅High chairs (if you’re visiting Quebec City with toddlers)
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
- ✅ Vegetarian and vegan options
2. Cochon Dingue
Multiple locations
Cochon Dingue is one of the Quebec City’s favourite restaurants. There are three different locations in Old Quebec – you’re bound to come across one without even looking for it! The name means the “Champlain Crazy Pig” and it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has separate menus for each. You can find some traditional Quebecois dishes such as French onion soup and fondue, and even some ethnic flare options like Caribbean or Indian-flavoured dishes.

Kid’s breakfasts at Cochon Dingue are $10.95, and lunches and dinners are $12.95. We came to Cochon Dingue for breakfast, and it was a good experience! (We were not at the Old Town location, but further uptown where we were staying.) It has a good atmosphere and good food. They’re all accomodating to kids, and will hand you kids menus as they bring you to your table.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available (10 years old and under)
- ✅High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
3. Chateau Frontenac Restaurants
There are two different restaurants inside the Chateau Frontenac; one of them fine dining (Champlain Restaurant), and the other one more of an upper scale bistro (Le Sam Bistro.)

You don’t need to be staying at the Chateau Frontenac in order to eat there, and both of them have kids menus! Champlain Restaurant is very formal and high-end, so you probably wouldn’t bring kids here unless it was a special occasion or you really want fine dining experience.
I have eaten at Le Sam Bistro though and found it delicious. It has a bit of an upper scale environment, but its quick and still pretty casual. It serves wraps, salads and finger foods. The menu for adults is still a bit pricey, but you can get a kids meal for $15 or less. (The options for kids at Le Sam Bistro are pasta, pizza, grilled chicken, grilled beef and fish of the day.)

- ✅ Kid’s meals available (12 years and under)
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
4. La Céramique Café Studio
435 Rue Saint-Joseph E, Québec
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ❌High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
La Céramique Cafe Studio is a cafe where kids and adults can paint their own ceramic creations. It costs $6 for the first hour of creating, plus the ceramic figurines cost between $10 and $40. Food such as smoothies, salads, soups and salads are served on-site in their café.

The only thing to keep in mind is that the website says that your creation is not available until 1 week later. So, this might not be a good option if you’re not going to be in Quebec for very long. (Before starting a creation, it would be best to communicate with the staff about which date they can have it ready.)
Good to Know: La Céramique Cafe Studio is actually a chain, and there’s one in Montreal too!
5. L’Antiquaire Buffet
95 Rue Saint-Paul, Québec
L’Antiquaire Buffet is located right in Old Town in a historic building, and serves typical Canadian dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has a café style to the interior, and a very nice outdoor eating area outside for the warmer months. Because of the small interior as its an old building, it is probably best suited to older kids.
- ❌Kid’s meals available
- ❌High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
L’Antiquaire Buffet is well known for their breakfasts, and if you’re a breakfast foodie, then you (and your kids) will love it here. Its important to note that this isn’t a “buffet” in the English sense of the word. ‘Buffet’ here means that your food is made fresh when you order it. Although there aren’t kids’ meals, there are so many customizable meal options, such as ordering one egg or two, with various sides. So ordering a smaller portion is pretty easy to do.
6. Pat Retro
1983 Rue de Bergerville, Québec
Pat Retro is an American 1950’s style diner, and has the interior and food options that you’d expect at a diner. Their kids menu is called “Bébé Ruth” and offers hot dogs, burgers, grilled cheese and of course, poutine!
- ✅ Kid’s meals available (10 years old and under)
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
Sorry, this is not the best place for vegetarians or gluten-free – Pat Retro mainly sticks to the traditional old classic diner food. You will have to travel a bit of a ways out of Old Town to get to Pat Retro. However, it’s just 10 minutes from the Quebec City Aquarium, which is a top attraction with kids in Quebec City.
7. Restaurant La Bûche
Two locations in Old Quebec
Restaurant La Buche has old stone, rustic interior -the kind of place that you won’t be able to stop taking pictures of. However, it’s worth mentioning that its decor is very classic old fashioned Canadian – mounted reindeer heads, and even a wolf skin. So if your kids would find this upsetting, then it might be best to skip La Buche.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ✅High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
La Buche is known for its traditional (but modern) Quebecois cuisine, and serves hearty, full plates with several sides, and bento-style lunches. They serve fois gras, (which I’m not a fan of personally )-but there are some very good gluten-free options. There are lots of waffles, french toast and crepes for breakfast, which is served until 3pm. If you’re vegetarian, this is probably not the best place for lunch or dinner – which is the only reason I’ve only been here for breakfast.
8. Ciel! Bistro-Bar
1225 Place Montcalm, Québec City
Ciel! Bistro-Bar is the prefect place to eat if you want to enjoy Quebec City with a view! Its located in Hotel Le Concorde, and its a revolving restaurant with 360 views of Quebec City. This would be a beautiful view of the old buildings against the St. Lawrence River, especially pretty in fall with the foliage. If its your first visit to Quebec City, then eating here is a nice idea.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
Ciel! Bistro serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The kids meal options at Ciel are a bit ‘healthier’ than what you typically find on most kid’s menus – it comes with soup du jour as a starter, followed by a choice between tagliatelle, fish of the day, or a sausage and potato plate.
Good to Know: Ciel! Bistro Bar is a 15-20 minute walk from Old Town. There is a large public parking lot just across the street.
9. Mille et Une Pizzas
363 Rue Saint-Paul, Québec
Mille et Une Pizzas has a variety of unique menu options. Regular menu pizzas come anywhere from 8″ to 18″, and there are options like goats cheese and pesto, crab, croque monsieur, bruschetta – too many to name. There are literally three pages of pizza options, as well as plenty of appetizers, salads and pastas.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
- ✅ Good vegan/vegetarian options
The kids’ meal for ages 12 and under is $14.50 and includes a 6″ personal pizza, a drink and a peanut-free brownie for dessert. Mille et Une Pizza goes above and beyond for us veggies – you can substitute a vegan protein (chickpeas, edamame or smoked tofu) at no extra cost.
10. Chez Victor Burger
Multiple locations
Chez Victor Burger is a great place for burgers, but also for poutine. There are a variety of burgers and poutines and they have been sure to include vegetarians and vegans in their menu.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available (12 years and under)
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
- ✅Good vegan/vegetarian options
I was looking for an excellent vegan poutine, and this place popped up. Just so happens, they have a kids menu too! Kids can choose between a beef burger, tofu burger, chicken fillet, mini-poutine or chicken burger. There are three different Chez Victor Burger locations in Quebec City. Two of them are right downtown in Old Quebec, while another is closer to the outskirts of the city.
11. Café Felin Ma Langue Aux Chats
307 Rue Saint-Paul, Québec, QC
If your kids love animals, as mine do, then they might get a kick out of eating at Quebec City’s first cat café. Opened by veterinarians, Café Felin Ma Langue Aux Chats offers bistro foods like sandwiches, soups, wraps, and of course, a range of coffees and teas. There are vegetarian options, and plant based milks available.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available (12 years and under)
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
- ✅ Good vegetarian/vegan options
The atmosphere is very relaxed and chill, so you should remind kids of this – it’s not a place of excitement, but of calmness. One important thing to keep in mind if visiting the cat cafe in Quebec with kids, is that sometimes the cats are sociable but sometimes they’re not. For the most part, they are calm, especially with all the attention they get – but be sure to reminds kids to be respectful of the animals’ space.
You’ll be asked to remove shoes upon arriving, as well as wash your hands.
Good to Know: Café Felin Ma Langue Aux Chats is located just steps away from Place Jean-Pelletier, a square with gardens and a park. Might be a good place to relax or have the kids burn off some steam
12. Chez Muffy
10 Rue Saint-Antoine, Québec City
Chez Muffy is a European farm to table restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner. Located in a stunning 200-year old building, the food comes from a nearby farm. This is the kind of place that you post photos of on Instagram, because the interior and exterior are both so quaint. Chez Muffy is located right downtown, just steps away from Place Royal in Old Quebec, so its a good place to stop while exploring Old Town.
- ✅ Kid’s meals available (12 years and under)
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
Chez Muffy doesn’t have an à la carte menu, it instead has a price per meal and you get a few courses with your meal. Breakfast plates are $35 for adults and there are different plate options – sweet, savoury, vegetarian, etc. There’s also a continental breakfast option. Dinner is $120 per person for adults. Kids can choose between grilled chicken breast, pasta, fish sticks and herbs, and a brownie with peanuts for dessert.
13. Le Billig Creperie
481 Rue Saint-Jean, Québec City
If you’re looking to eat good crepes in Quebec City, then Le Billig is one of your best bets. The owners are from a small village in France where they learned to cook from their grandparents. They have some unique flavours in their crepes such as lemon curd, grilled tomato and goat’s cheese with walnuts, but also some simple ones with maple syrup. They don’t make crepes specifically that are kid-sized, but the crepes are reasonably priced. The savoury ones range from $10-$15, while the sweet ones are cheaper, as low as $6. They also serve coffee, wine and juice.

- ❌Kid’s meals available
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
One thing to keep in mind about Le Billig, is while we found them very family-friendly and kind, the chef doesn’t to customizations, so it may not be the best place for a picky eater. However, there are some very simple crepes on their menu, so that’s what I ordered for my toddler.
Good to Know: Le Billig Creperie is about a 25-30 minute walk from Old Town, but its right near the Plains of Abraham and Observatoire de La Capitale (the tallest skyscraper in Quebec City where you can get views of the city) so its perfect place to grab a bite if you were planning to visit one these attractions.

14. Le Lapin Sauté
52 Rue du Petit Champlain, Quebec City
- ✅ Kid’s meals available
- ✅ High chairs
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online

Located right in Old Town, some kids will get a kick out of this restaurant. Sauté means jumped, or ‘sautéed’, and admittedly, I’m not sure which meaning this restaurant was going for in their name- probably a bit of both!
Lapin Sauté is very meat oriented, the regular adults’ menu has options like rabbit and duck meat. There are a few basic vegetarian options; a pasta, a cheese platter and the soup of the day. Kid’s meals come with a starter (soup of the day or rolls) a choice between different main course options and a dessert to finish off the meal.
Good to Know: Le Lapin Sauté is very popular, located right on Rue Champlain which is a historic street in Old Quebec. I recommend making a reservation as early as possible.
15. La Cuisine
205 Rue Saint-Vallier E, Québec
- ❌ Kid’s meals available
- ✅ High chair
- ✅ Order online for take-out
- ✅Reserve a table online
La Cusine has a 1950s, retro-chic vibe with orange walls, mismatched chairs and lots of decorations. Its a cozy atmosphere and is busy at peak times. There isn’t a specific kid’s menu, but they offer plenty of shareable and inexpensive items, such as a hummus plate, nachos, a grilled cheese (only $3.70) so its totally doable to bring your family here and enjoy options that everyone can eat. La Cuisine also serves a range of beers, and is open very late (until 1 or 3am some nights.)
Good to Know: La Cuisine has a high chair, but its an old chair – however, it still works.
2 Things to Keep in Mind about Restaurants in Quebec City
Here are some important things to keep in mind to make meal times at Quebec City restaurants to go smoothly
1. Expect wait times
Quebec City is a popular tourist destination, so many of the restaurants -especially those that are right in Old Town, can get very busy especially during high season.
If you’re in the city during any of the Quebec City festivals, or during the summer or winter (especially during the Christmas season) then expect to wait 15 minutes during the dinner hour. To make things easier, consider reserving a table in advance. Most of the Quebec City restaurants offer online reservation.
2. There will almost always be an English ordering option
Virtually all of the Quebec City restaurants have English menus. Additionally, most of the staff should be able to communicate with you in English.
However, if you’re like me and you want to practice your French – then go ahead, and order from the French menu, and stick to French. I found most people in Quebec City supportive of me wanting to speak French.

Family-friendly Restaurants in Quebec-City: Conclusion
Quebec City has no shortage of great places to eat with kids. Between French Canadian traditional cuisine to some ethnic flares, there’s a huge variety of food, and its a great place to indulge in a lot of great meals.
If you have older children who are up for a little food adventure, or seem to enjoy Quebecois cuisine, you could also consider a Quebec City food tour. Read my post on the 3 things to know before booking a Quebec City food tour.
One of my favourite things about Quebec City restaurants is that many of them are so unique, housed in buildings that are 100s of years old and have a lot of character. Quebec City is the oldest city in Canada, so its hard to find restaurants like this anywhere else in Canada.
I hope that this has given you some great ideas of where you can eat with kids in Quebec City. Bonne appétit!
